Keep Your Brighter Smile Longer
A professional whitening treatment can lift years of stains in one visit. The results are not permanent, though, so a few habits make a real difference in how long they last. The American Dental Association points out that whitening works on natural teeth and not on crowns or fillings, which is worth knowing before you start (ADA).
The First 48 Hours Matter Most
Right after whitening, your teeth pick up stains more easily. For the first two days:
- Skip dark foods and drinks (coffee, red wine, berries, tomato sauce)
- Avoid very acidic foods that can soften enamel
- Do not smoke or use tobacco
- Brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush
Habits That Keep Teeth Bright
1. Use a Straw
For coffee, tea, and other staining drinks, a straw keeps most of the liquid off the front of your teeth.
2. Rinse After Meals
If you cannot brush, swish with water to wash away color from food and drinks.
3. Stay on Top of Daily Care
Brush twice a day and floss once a day. A whitening toothpaste helps with surface stains, but it does not replace good daily habits (ADA, MouthHealthy).
4. Keep Your Cleanings
A professional cleaning every six months removes surface stains and tartar you cannot reach at home.
5. Plan Touch-Ups
Depending on what you eat and drink, a quick touch-up every 6 to 12 months keeps the shade where you want it.
When to Come Back
Most people hold their results from six months to two years. When you notice the color starting to dull, call us and we will set up a touch-up.
